HOW TO APPLY FOR A PERSONAL GRANT

Individuals wishing to submit a personal grant application are required to complete a one-time registration process. Neither a Data Universal Number System (DUNS) number nor the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) registration is necessary for Individual Registration. However, once you are ready to apply for a grant, you will need to Get Registered. This process takes 3-5 business days up to 4 weeks.

The steps to take in both grants and benefits websites are:

1. Search Grant Opportunities. Search by keyword, Funding Opportunity Number (FON) or Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number. Search by a variety of categories of funding activities.

2. Once you have found the personal grant opportunity for which you wish to apply, click the “Application” button in the grant opportunity synopsis.

3. You may also search for a specific application package by the Funding Opportunity Number (FON), Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number or Funding Opportunity Competition ID on the Download Application Package page.

There is a stringent review process through a committee. You will compete with other applicants for the personal grant money, and this grant review committee will evaluate the merits of each proposal. Only those that they feel exemplifies the objective of the grant will be approved. But your chances of receiving an individual grant are greater through federal and state agencies than in private foundations.
