What is Child and Dependent Care Credit Program?

The Child and Dependent Care Credit program can lessen your tax by declaring the credit for child and dependent care costs on your Federal income tax return.

Who is eligible for this program?

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must have funded for the care of an eligible person so that you (and your spouse if you are married) could be employed or look for a job. You can also demand the Child and Dependent Care Credit for an eligible person who is defined as:

Your dependent who was below the age 13 when the care was offered and was your eligible child, or;


Your dependent who was physically or mentally unable of self-care and who had the same main place of residence as you for more than half of the year, or;


A person who was physically or mentally unable of self-care, had the same place of stay as you for more than half of the year, and was your dependent. For thisreason, whether the person was your dependent is evaluated irrespective of the person’s gross income, whether the person filed a combined return with the person’s spouse, or whether you or your spouse could be stated as a dependent on someone else's return.
