The Department of Housing and Urban Development, through its Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity ensures that all persons or families, regardless of their race, religion, national origin, gender, or disability, has access to the housing of their choice.

There are also a number of public and private not-for-profit agencies dedicated to creating racially and economically integrated communities, including groups participating in HUD's Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) and HUD's Fair Housing Assistance Program (FHAP).

These are the ongoing programs by the Federal government for the rehabilitation or improvement of your home. These are:

    • Home improvement grants for persons with disabilities
    • HUD's property improvement loan

Aside from home renovation or repair, there are programs for homeownership, too. Call your public Housing agency for help. You may also get information from the HUD-approved lenders.
